Public Housing Agency Plan: Final Day for Public Comment

Today, Saturday, March 7, 2026, marks the conclusion of the 45-day public comment period for the proposed Annual Public Housing Agency Plan (PHA) for Fiscal Year 2026-2027. The Miami-Dade Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) has invited residents to review and provide feedback on the proposed operations and capital improvement plans for the upcoming fiscal cycle. While physical administrative offices are closed today, written comments can still be submitted via email to the department's dedicated planning portal. This plan is a vital component of the city’s strategy to manage affordable housing and federal subsidy programs.

Public Safety: Spring Forward into Fire Safety

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) is issuing a public service announcement as the region prepares for the start of Daylight Saving Time. Residents are reminded that clocks will "spring forward" one hour early tomorrow morning, Sunday, March 8. Fire officials are urging all households to use this biannual time change as a reminder to test smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. Batteries should be replaced in all devices to ensure they are functional. According to MDFR, a working smoke alarm significantly increases the chances of survival during a home fire, and this simple maintenance task is a critical step in household emergency preparedness.

Park Improvements: Grapeland Heights Baseball Fields Reopen

The City of Miami has officially announced the reopening of two renovated baseball fields at Grapeland Heights Park. The upgrade features new artificial turf and includes extensive engineering controls and environmental restoration as required by the Environmental Resources and Management Agency (DERM). These improvements are part of a broader initiative in District 1 to modernize recreational facilities while ensuring compliance with environmental safety standards. The fields are now available for community use and scheduled league play.

Community Services: Tax Assistance and Senior Rebates

The City is currently hosting free tax preparation services at José Marti Park through the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Residents earning up to $69,000 annually are eligible for no-cost electronic filing and assistance with the Earned Income Tax Credit. Additionally, the Senior Citizen Tax Relief Program is active; qualifying seniors who homestead their homes in the City of Miami should look for property tax rebate checks currently being distributed via mail. This program provides a 100% rebate of City ad valorem taxes for eligible residents.
