City Notices: Weekend Cold Weather Advisory and Infrastructure Updates

Weather Advisory: Extreme Cold and Wind Chill Warning
The National Weather Service has issued a critical cold weather advisory for metropolitan Miami-Dade County, active from 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2026, through 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, February 1. Residents in Kendall, Hialeah, and the City of Miami should prepare for a significant drop in temperatures, with wind chills expected to reach the mid-30s overnight and potentially dipping into the mid-20s in certain inland areas. A freeze watch is also in effect for coastal and metropolitan regions. Officials recommend that residents bring pets indoors, protect sensitive tropical plants, and check on elderly neighbors. When using portable heaters, ensure they are kept at least three feet away from flammable materials and are never left unattended.
Transportation Alert: Signature Bridge and SR 836 Construction
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) continues major work on the I-395/SR 836/I-95 Design-Build Project. For the weekend of January 31, motorists should anticipate intermittent lane closures and detours near the Midtown Interchange. Crews are currently focused on the installation of arch segments for the new 1,000-foot Signature Bridge spanning Biscayne Boulevard and NE 2nd Avenue. Additional work on the double-decker portion of SR 836 between NW 17th Avenue and I-95 may cause nighttime traffic shifts. Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time and strictly follow all posted detour signs to ensure the safety of workers and the traveling public. Law enforcement will be present to assist with the maintenance of traffic throughout the project limits.
Public Works: The Underline Phase 3 Construction Detours
Construction for Phase 3 of The Underline remains active along the 7-mile segment connecting the Vizcaya Metrorail Station to Dadeland South. On Saturday, January 31, pedestrians and cyclists are advised of ongoing detours near the US-1 corridor. Construction crews are currently implementing green infrastructure improvements, including the installation of bioswales and native landscaping designed to manage stormwater runoff. While Metrorail service continues on its regular schedule, certain pedestrian paths below the guideway are restricted. Please observe all orange safety fencing and use designated crosswalks at the 25 improved intersections along the path. This phase is the final segment of the 10-mile linear park and is scheduled for completion later this year.
City Services: Solid Waste and Recycling Operations
The City of Miami Department of Solid Waste reminds residents that there is no residential curbside garbage or bulky trash collection scheduled for Saturday, January 31. The city’s regional transfer stations and the Mini Dump Facility remain open for residential debris drop-offs during their standard operating hours. Residents are reminded to separate yard trash from household garbage and to avoid placing prohibited items in the blue recycling bins. Regular curbside service for all residential zones will resume on Monday morning. For information regarding household chemical disposal or to report illegal dumping, citizens are encouraged to call the 311 service line.
