Transportation and Transit Alerts

The City of Miami and Miami-Dade County have announced significant adjustments to public transportation schedules for Sunday, January 25, 2026. To facilitate the thousands of participants and spectators attending the Life Time Miami Marathon and Half Marathon, Metrorail and Metromover services will begin operations early at 4:00 a.m. This expanded service is designed to provide efficient access to the downtown area and race start points, reducing traffic congestion in the urban core. Additionally, the Metro Express all-electric Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system is now fully operational on the South Dade TransitWay, offering a high-speed alternative for those traveling from the southern regions of the county. Commuters should note that while rail services are expanded, standard Sunday schedules remain in effect for most Metrobus routes.

Public Health and Environmental Advisories

The Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County has issued an active water quality advisory for the North Shore beach area at 73rd Street in Miami Beach. Laboratory tests indicate that the water does not currently meet recreational standards due to elevated levels of Enterococcus bacteria. These bacteria are often indicators of fecal pollution, which can result from stormwater runoff or local wildlife. Residents and visitors are strongly advised against swimming or engaging in any water-related activities at this location until further notice, as contact with contaminated water poses an increased risk of illness.

Furthermore, the City of Miami Beach maintains a "No Contact" advisory for the waters adjacent to Parkview Island Park. This notice follows ongoing environmental monitoring of the Park View Canal. Signage has been posted at all public access points, and officials are working to identify the source of the impairment. These advisories will remain active until subsequent testing confirms that bacteria levels have returned to acceptable health safety limits.

Housing and Building Safety Notices

The City of Miami Department of Housing and Community Development has formally announced the reopening of the Senior Rental Assistance Program (SRAP). Although the application window officially opens on Monday, January 26, the city has released preliminary guidelines today to allow residents to prepare. This program is intended to support low-income seniors facing rising housing costs. Eligible individuals are encouraged to gather the necessary documentation for the three-week application period, which concludes on February 20, 2026.

Additionally, property owners are reminded of the 2026 Building Recertification requirements. Official notices were distributed earlier this month to owners of buildings that have reached their 25-year or 10-year recertification milestones. The deadline for submitting the required structural and electrical safety reports is April 7, 2026. Property owners who have not yet initiated their inspections are urged to contact a certified engineer immediately to ensure compliance with county safety codes.
