Critical Health Advisory: Mosquito-Borne Illness Alert

The Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County has issued a reinforced health alert following a rise in travel-associated cases of mosquito-borne illnesses. As of early March 2026, the county remains under a mosquito-borne illness alert specifically for Chikungunya, Dengue, and Malaria.

Health officials report a steady accumulation of cases, particularly those linked to international travel. Residents and visitors are urged to "Fight the Bite" by following these safety protocols: drain standing water around homes to eliminate breeding grounds and cover skin with clothing or use repellent containing DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus when outdoors. Enhanced surveillance and larval reduction efforts are currently being coordinated by County Mosquito Control.

Public Service: New Express Permitting Launched

Homeowners in the City of Miami can now take advantage of the newly launched "Same Day–No Delay: Walk-Thru Express Review" service. This program is designed to significantly speed up the residential permitting process for straightforward home improvement projects.

The service operates Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Miami Riverside Center. Eligible projects include fences, driveways, window and door replacements, roofing, and minor kitchen or bath remodels. Applicants must upload their documents to the ProjectDox system prior to arrival. This initiative aims to provide a more predictable and efficient path for residents to complete property upgrades without the traditional administrative delays.
