Commuter Alert: Major Friday Lane Reductions on I-95 and Metrorail Service Delays

Morning Commute Overview
Commuters in Miami should prepare for a challenging Friday, March 13, 2026. A combination of ongoing infrastructure projects, transit service modifications, and seasonal traffic management plans on Miami Beach is expected to impact travel times throughout the day. While the early morning rush is currently moving with standard congestion, significant delays are anticipated later today due to multi-lane closures on major arteries and restricted rail frequencies.
Major Roadworks and Highway Closures
The I-395/SR 836/I-95 Design-Build Project continues to cause shifts in traffic patterns. For those traveling through the downtown interchange today, note the following:
- I-95 Northbound and Southbound: Beginning at 11:00 p.m. tonight, up to four lanes will be closed in both directions between NW 8th Street and NW 29th Street. These heavy Friday night closures are scheduled to remain in effect until 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning.
- SR 836 (Dolphin Expressway): All eastbound travel lanes will be closed at NW 17th Avenue starting at 11:00 p.m. tonight for bridge support work. Traffic will be detoured via NW 17th Avenue and SW 1st Street.
- Downtown Intersection Work: Expect single and double lane closures at the intersection of NW 10th Avenue and NW 14th Street between 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. for signalization equipment installation.
- Golden Glades Interchange: The I-95 northbound off-ramp to NW 151st Street remains closed as part of the GGI enhancement project. Drivers are advised to use alternate exits at NW 135th Street.
Metrorail and Metromover Service Alerts
Miami-Dade Transit has issued several alerts for Friday riders. Infrastructure upgrades at the Dadeland South Intermodal Station have necessitated single-tracking operations. As a result, Green and Orange Line trains are running on a modified schedule with headways of 10 to 12 minutes during peak hours and up to 30 minutes during off-peak times.
Metromover users should be aware that the Inner Loop is currently operating on a modified track configuration, running in the same direction as the Omni and Brickell loops. The Miami Avenue Station remains closed today; passengers should utilize the 3rd Street Station as an alternative. Furthermore, a system-wide upgrade will delay the opening of all Metromover stations until 1:00 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, March 14.
Miami Beach Spring Break Restrictions
The 2026 Spring Break traffic plan is active as of today. Law enforcement has implemented license plate readers on the MacArthur and Julia Tuttle Causeways, which may cause intermittent slowdowns. On South Beach, Ocean Drive is only accessible to vehicles via 15th Street, with a mandatory exit at 5th Street. High-impact parking rates and security checkpoints are also in effect across the South of Fifth and Flamingo Park neighborhoods.
