Sunday Traffic and Commute Overview

Good morning, Miami. Today is Sunday, March 1, 2026, and while the weekend usually brings a reprieve from the rush-hour grind, several major events and infrastructure projects are set to impact travel across the county today. Commuters and residents should prepare for significant congestion around Virginia Key and Coconut Grove, alongside ongoing maintenance on the transit network.

Major Event Alerts: Virginia Key and Coconut Grove

The final day of the We Belong Here music festival is taking place today at Historic Virginia Key Beach Park. Authorities expect approximately 7,000 attendees, which will cause heavy congestion and significant delays along the Rickenbacker Causeway. Traffic flow is expected to be heaviest during the peak arrival window this afternoon and the late-night departure period. Motorists not attending the event are advised to avoid the Causeway if possible.

In Coconut Grove, the Montreux Jazz Festival Miami concludes today at The Hangar in Regatta Harbour. This event, curated by Jon Batiste, has drawn large crowds throughout the weekend. Expect slow-moving traffic and limited parking availability near the waterfront and surrounding streets in the Grove. If you are heading to this area, consider using rideshare services to mitigate parking challenges.

Transit Disruptions: Metrorail and Metromover

Miami-Dade Transit has issued several critical alerts for Sunday travelers:

  • Metrorail: Single-tracking remains in effect at the Dadeland South Station. This maintenance project, which began in late February, is expected to last several weeks. Passengers should anticipate longer headways and potential delays on both the Green and Orange lines.
  • Metromover: As of yesterday afternoon, service on the Inner Loop remains suspended due to ongoing technical difficulties. Passengers are encouraged to utilize the Brickell or Omni Loops to reach their destinations within the downtown area.
  • MetroConnect Reminder: As a reminder to weekend commuters, the MetroConnect on-demand microtransit service transitioned to a weekday-only schedule last month. There is no MetroConnect service available today.

Roadworks and Maintenance

On the roads, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) continues its maintenance program. Specifically, motorists on SW 8th Street (Tamiami Trail/SR 90) should expect flagging operations and slow-moving traffic in the westbound lanes between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. today. Crews are performing essential vegetation trimming along the corridor. Additionally, minor lane closures remain possible near the Palmetto Expressway (SR 826) as part of ongoing safety studies and ramp improvements.

We recommend using real-time navigation apps to monitor live conditions before heading out, as these situations can change rapidly throughout the day.
