Dylan Dubovik’s grand slam and two-run homer drive No. 23 Miami’s doubleheader sweep of Lafayette

Miami closes Saturday with two run-rule wins at Mark Light Field
Freshman Dylan Dubovik delivered the decisive swings as No. 23 Miami completed a Saturday doubleheader sweep of Lafayette at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field in Coral Gables, winning 14-4 in the opener and 14-3 in seven innings in the nightcap.
Dubovik’s impact was most pronounced in the second game, where he hit two home runs — a grand slam and a two-run shot — and drove in six runs in a 14-hit Miami attack. The nightcap ended early under the run rule, matching the opener’s seven-inning finish.
How the second game turned: five-run second, then a six-RBI burst
Miami built separation quickly in the nightcap with a five-run second inning. After an RBI single from Brylan West brought in the first run, Dubovik followed with a grand slam that stretched the lead and shifted the game’s tempo. An inning later, Miami added more pressure when Alonzo Alvarez cleared the bases with a three-run triple. Dubovik then homered again — a two-run drive to center — as the Hurricanes pushed their advantage to 9-0.
The Hurricanes continued to score in the middle innings. Miami added two runs in the fourth, then tacked on single runs in the fifth and a two-run sixth. Lafayette scored three times in the seventh, but the margin remained large enough to end the game after seven.
Pitching and pace: Collera strikes out 10 in the nightcap
On the mound, Lazaro Collera anchored the second game with 10 strikeouts over five innings, allowing one hit. Miami’s pitching staff limited Lafayette’s early baserunners, supporting an offense that repeatedly extended innings and turned extra opportunities into crooked numbers.
Opener recap: early Miami lead, late separation
In the first game, Miami jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the opening inning, highlighted by a three-run home run from Cian Copeland. Lafayette answered in the third with two homers — a solo shot followed by a three-run blast — to cut the deficit to 7-4. Miami responded immediately with a five-run bottom of the third and carried that cushion to a 14-4 final in seven innings.
- Doubleheader results (Feb. 21, 2026): Miami 14-4, Miami 14-3 (7 innings)
- Dubovik in Game 2: two home runs, six RBIs
- Collera in Game 2: five innings, 10 strikeouts, one hit allowed
The sweep positioned Miami to pursue a four-game series sweep in Sunday’s finale in Coral Gables.
