Incident unfolded along State Road 836 in western Miami-Dade

A Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) trooper shot a woman early Saturday, March 7, 2026, after investigators say she stabbed him during a roadside encounter connected to reports of a wrong-way vehicle on State Road 836, also known as the Dolphin Expressway.

FHP said troopers were dispatched at about 5:30 a.m. after receiving calls about a vehicle traveling the wrong direction on SR 836 near Northwest 107th Avenue. When a trooper arrived, FHP reported locating the vehicle stopped in the grassy center median.

FHP said the trooper approached and made contact with a woman inside the vehicle and observed a young child with her. During the interaction, the woman allegedly produced a knife and attacked the trooper, stabbing him in the neck, head and shoulder.

Use of force and injuries reported as non-life-threatening

During the alleged stabbing, FHP said the trooper fired his service weapon, striking the woman. Authorities reported that both the trooper and the woman were taken to a hospital and that their injuries were considered non-life-threatening.

The woman’s name had not been released as of Saturday afternoon. FHP stated she would be booked into the Miami-Dade County Jail after she is released from the hospital.

Review process initiated as investigation continues

FHP said the case remains under investigation and that the Florida Department of Law Enforcement will conduct a review of the trooper’s use of force, describing the review as the standard process in officer-involved shootings.

Authorities have not released the child’s age or said whether the child was physically harmed during the incident.
