Defendant moved into Miami-Dade custody as prosecutors pursue a second-degree murder case

A man accused of killing his girlfriend after a confrontation along Interstate 95 has been brought to Miami-Dade County to face a second-degree murder prosecution, escalating a case that began with an early-morning discovery beside one of South Florida’s busiest highways.

The victim, 22-year-old Nahomi Cittadini, was found along I-95 near the Ives Dairy Road area on Dec. 7, 2024. Investigators have alleged the events leading to her death unfolded after an argument with her boyfriend, Lorent Junior Pion, 29.

How investigators say the narrative changed

Detectives say Pion initially claimed Cittadini jumped from his vehicle during an argument and was struck by another car. Law enforcement later cited evidence they say contradicts that account, including traffic-camera footage reviewed by a transportation worker.

In the arrest warrant, the footage is described as showing a man repeatedly punching a woman and dragging her toward travel lanes, with the woman moving back toward the shoulder before being pulled again into the roadway. Authorities also documented blood evidence reported both inside and outside Pion’s vehicle.

The central dispute in the case is whether Cittadini’s death followed an accidental roadway incident or a violent assault that placed her in the path of traffic.

Charges and custody status

Authorities filed a second-degree murder charge against Pion months after the death, following additional investigative work and the release of warrant details. Before the murder charge was announced, he faced allegations tied to leaving the scene and fleeing from law enforcement. Jail records in South Florida list an arrest date of Dec. 7, 2024, and include separate allegations related to fleeing and failing to remain at the scene.

With Pion now in Miami-Dade, prosecutors are expected to proceed with court hearings that typically include first appearance proceedings, bond arguments, and the formal filing of charging documents in circuit court. The second-degree murder allegation does not require proof of premeditation under Florida law, but does require prosecutors to establish that the death resulted from an act showing a “depraved mind” or reckless disregard for human life.

History of reported domestic violence concerns

Investigators also cited a prior history of violence between the couple. Court and warrant materials reference an earlier physical altercation in Miami Beach in August 2024 that resulted in a protective order against Pion.

What comes next

  • Upcoming court dates will address custody conditions and whether bond is available.

  • Prosecutors are expected to outline the evidence they intend to rely on, including video, forensic findings, and witness accounts.

  • The defense will have the opportunity to challenge probable cause, seek suppression of evidence where applicable, and contest the interpretation of surveillance footage and forensic results.

The case remains active in Miami-Dade’s criminal courts, with the defendant presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
