Metrorail Delays and Miami Beach Security Measures Impact Saturday Commute

Morning Transit and Metrorail Alerts

Commuters utilizing the Metrorail system this morning should prepare for significant service adjustments. As of Monday, February 23, 2026, Miami-Dade Transit has implemented a single-tracking operation at the Dadeland South Station. This measure is part of the ongoing Intermodal Station project and is expected to last for approximately six weeks. During this time, trains will serve only one side of the platform, which will lead to phased platform closures and inevitable service delays. Passengers are advised to allow for extra travel time, especially when connecting at the southern end of the Green Line.

Miami Beach Spring Break Traffic Plan

Travelers heading to Miami Beach today, Saturday, February 28, should be aware of the city's high-impact traffic and security plan. In an ongoing effort to manage large crowds during the spring season, police have activated license plate readers on both the MacArthur Causeway and the Julia Tuttle Causeway. Additionally, security checkpoints are in effect at various beach entrances throughout the weekend. Commuters should expect heavy congestion on the causeways as traffic slows for monitoring. Motorists looking to access the South of Fifth or Flamingo Park neighborhoods should note that local access restrictions are being enforced to limit non-resident traffic in residential zones.

Bus Detours and MetroConnect Service Changes

Several Metrobus routes are currently operating under detours that may affect your morning schedule:

  • Route 77: Buses are bypassing NW 7th Avenue between 111th Street and 95th Street due to a localized detour.
  • Route 79: Detours are active on 79th Street; westbound buses are not servicing the stretch from 8th Avenue to 12th Avenue, while eastbound buses are detoured between 11th Court and 8th Avenue.
  • MetroConnect: Residents who previously relied on the MetroConnect on-demand service are reminded that as of February 1, 2026, weekend service has been discontinued. The service now operates exclusively on weekdays from 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Ongoing Major Roadworks

Infrastructure projects continue to affect major arteries in the downtown area. The State Road 886 (Port Boulevard) roadway project, which began earlier this month, remains a factor for those traveling between U.S. 1/Biscayne Boulevard and PortMiami. Expect lane shifts and construction equipment in the area as crews work on the eight-month enhancement project. Additionally, in the Bal Harbour area, 24-hour lane closures are in place along Collins Avenue and Harding Avenue (near 96th Street) for the ongoing roadway re-alignment. At least two lanes remain open in both directions, but intermittent merging will slow the flow of traffic throughout the day.
