Miami-Dade Committees Convene to Address Inspector General Reform and $130 Million Transit Grant

Busy Slate of Government Meetings Scheduled for Monday
Government activity across the Miami area is set for a productive Monday, February 2, 2026, as county and municipal leaders convene to discuss significant oversight reforms, multi-million dollar infrastructure grants, and community transparency initiatives. From the Stephen P. Clark Government Center to local commission chambers, several key sessions are expected to shape the region's policy and fiscal landscape for the coming year.
Miami-Dade County Committees Focus on Oversight and Infrastructure
The Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners has a packed morning with two critical committee meetings. Beginning at 9:00 a.m., the Policy Council (PC) will meet in the Commission Chambers to consider an ordinance that would significantly alter the Office of the Inspector General. The proposed amendment to Section 2-1076 of the County Code seeks to update the minimum qualifications, term of office, and the contract selection process for the Inspector General, an office vital to maintaining transparency and preventing fraud within county government.
Following the Policy Council at 11:00 a.m., the Infrastructure Innovation and Technology Committee (IITC) will gather to review a major transit funding resolution. The committee is set to vote on the ratification of a grant agreement with the United States Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration (FTA). This agreement would secure up to $130,382,011 in fiscal year 2025 formula funds. These federal dollars are earmarked for state-of-good-repair initiatives and bus system improvements, representing a critical investment in the county's aging transit infrastructure.
City of Miami and North Miami Beach Legislative Activity
While the full City of Miami Commission is not scheduled to meet until later this month, District 2 Commissioner Damian Pardo is hosting a "Partnering for Progress" workshop this evening. Taking place from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Miami Dade College, the event is designed to foster collaboration between city departments and the public. Representatives from Planning and Zoning, Public Works, and the Miami Police Department will be on hand to engage with residents on civic education and transparency.
In North Miami Beach, the local government has scheduled a Special Commission Meeting for 6:30 p.m. The session, held at City Hall on NE 19th Avenue, allows the commission to address urgent municipal matters outside of the regular meeting cycle. Residents are encouraged to attend as the city moves forward with its 2026 legislative agenda.
Public Participation and Access
Most of today’s meetings offer multiple avenues for public engagement. The Miami-Dade committee sessions will be broadcast live on Miami-Dade Television and available for webcasting on the county’s official portal. Members of the public wishing to speak during the sessions at the Stephen P. Clark Government Center are required to register on the first floor before being escorted to the chambers.
