A Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department (MDCR) officer was killed in an off-duty motorcycle crash in Sunrise late Friday night, prompting condolences from county corrections leadership and an active investigation by local police.

MDCR identified the officer as Justin Bozeman. In a department statement released Saturday morning, MDCR Director Sherea Green confirmed Bozeman’s death and asked that the family’s privacy be respected as relatives, friends and coworkers grieve.

Sunrise police reported that officers responded at approximately 10:09 p.m. to a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a motorcyclist in the 2400 block of University Drive. Police said the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle involved sustained minor injuries, police said. No further details on the driver’s condition were released, and authorities said the incident remains under investigation.
