Arrest followed undercover appointment at Brickell high-rise

Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a 31-year-old woman Thursday afternoon after investigators arranged an undercover appointment for a cosmetic injection at a Brickell office, jail and court records show.

The arrest took place after law-enforcement and regulatory investigators went to a 15th-floor office in a building at 175 SW 7 St. An investigator with Florida’s medical quality assurance program posed as a prospective client while detectives observed the encounter, records show. Authorities took the woman into custody shortly after 3:10 p.m., and she was later booked at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center at about 6:35 p.m.

Product identified as “Toxta,” described as unapproved and prescription-only

Investigators reported that the vial intended for the injection was labeled “Toxta.” In the arrest documentation, detectives described the product as a botulinum toxin injectable that requires a prescription and is not approved for distribution in the United States.

Botulinum toxin products are used both cosmetically and medically, and in the U.S. they are regulated as prescription drugs. Federal health officials have warned that unapproved or misbranded versions of these injectables can present serious safety risks, including symptoms consistent with botulism.

Allegations include portraying herself as a doctor online

Investigators alleged the defendant presented herself online as a doctor offering aesthetic procedures. Deputies identified Instagram accounts they say were used to advertise and schedule appointments, including promotional pricing for wrinkle-reduction injections.

The operation that led to the arrest began with outreach through social media, culminating in an agreed appointment time of 3 p.m. Thursday at the Brickell location, records show.

Charges filed and bond set in Miami-Dade court

Prosecutors filed three counts: practicing a health care profession without a license, practicing medicine without a license, and possession of a drug with intent to sell, records show.

During a Friday morning bond hearing, a Miami-Dade judge set bond at $5,000. Court records also indicate an immigration hold was placed on the defendant, which can affect release even if bond is posted.
