Miami-Dade family searches for micro bully taken from driveway as surveillance video shows quick grab

Surveillance video captures brief window
A Miami-Dade County family is searching for a dog taken from the end of their driveway in the Golden Glades area, after home surveillance video recorded the moment the animal was picked up and driven away.
The incident occurred on Oct. 30, 2024, along South River Drive near Northwest 151st Street. The dog, described by the family as a micro bully, was outside an open gate for a short period while the owner carried groceries into the home. Video shows a dark-colored sedan pull up, then a passenger exiting and grabbing the dog before the vehicle leaves.
Family says dog is central to daily life
The owner, John Rogan, said he purchased the dog for $5,000 the previous year and that the animal had become a key part of the household. Rogan said the disappearance has been especially difficult for the family’s 3-year-old child with special needs, describing repeated daily questions about the dog’s whereabouts.
The family has posted signs in the area and offered a $1,000 reward. They have also shared the surveillance footage publicly in hopes someone recognizes the vehicle or the person involved.
What the case shows about pet theft and recovery
The recorded footage provides investigators and the public with several potentially useful details: the time window of the grab, the approach and departure of the sedan, and the fact that the animal was taken directly from private property near the street. In similar cases, recovery efforts often depend on rapid reporting, distribution of clear images of the suspect vehicle, and documentation that establishes ownership.
Microchipping can help reunify pets with owners if the animal is later brought to a veterinary clinic, shelter, or rescue that scans for a chip. However, a microchip is not a GPS device; it typically only works if someone scans the pet and the registration information is current.
How residents can help without compromising investigations
- If you recognize the vehicle or person shown in neighborhood video, report the information directly to law enforcement or an anonymous tip line.
- If you see a dog matching the description, avoid confrontations; note the location, any identifying features, and whether the animal appears to be under someone’s control.
- If you find a stray dog, a microchip scan at many veterinary offices can identify registered ownership and provide a route for reunification.
Anyone with information can contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
The investigation centers on identifying the individuals in the footage and determining whether the act was theft or a mistaken pickup that was never corrected. For the family, the immediate goal remains the same: locating the dog and bringing it home.
