Evans converts late-race move into milestone Formula E win in Miami Gardens

Mitch Evans won the Miami E-Prix on Saturday, January 31, 2026, delivering Jaguar’s first victory of the 2025–26 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship season after a decisive switchback over Nico Müller in the closing phase of the race. The event marked Formula E’s return to the Miami area for a second consecutive season and its first race at Miami International Autodrome, the stadium complex circuit in Miami Gardens.

Starting from within the top 10, Evans progressed into contention as changing grip and intermittent rain reshaped the order. Müller, who had secured pole position, repeatedly featured at the front across early strategic phases, including the first round of Attack Mode activations that temporarily re-ordered the leading group.

The defining pass: Lap 27 switchback for the lead

The pivotal moment came on Lap 27, when Evans executed a switchback maneuver through the final corners to take the lead from Müller. The move was set up by drawing Müller into a defensive line before cutting back on exit to complete the pass cleanly and establish track position at the head of the field.

From there, Evans controlled the pace through the remaining strategic variables, particularly the timing and duration of Attack Mode. In Formula E, Attack Mode requires drivers to divert off-line through a designated activation zone to gain a temporary power increase, creating a balance between short-term performance and the time lost taking the activation.

Attack Mode sequencing and a late-race reshuffle behind

While Evans managed his second activation without surrendering control, the fight for the remaining podium places intensified. Pascal Wehrlein climbed from 11th on the grid to finish third, while Joel Eriksson recorded a career-best fourth for Envision. Nyck de Vries and Edoardo Mortara completed the top six for Mahindra.

  • 1st: Mitch Evans (Jaguar)
  • 2nd: Nico Müller (Porsche)
  • 3rd: Pascal Wehrlein (Porsche)
  • 4th: Joel Eriksson (Envision)
  • 5th: Nyck de Vries (Mahindra)
  • 6th: Edoardo Mortara (Mahindra)

Evans’ victory was his 15th in Formula E, setting a series record and pushing his career total beyond 1,000 championship points.

The Miami result also underscored the competitive compression typical of Formula E, where pace swings can be driven as much by timed power boosts and track position as by outright speed. With Round 3 complete, the championship heads next to Jeddah for a doubleheader on February 13–14, 2026.
