Monday Morning Traffic Snapshot

Commuters in Miami-Dade are facing a busy start to the work week this Monday, January 26, 2026. Real-time reports from the Florida Highway Patrol and local monitors indicate several early morning incidents that are impacting the morning rush. As of 5:30 AM, a vehicle crash was reported on eastbound SW 88th Street (Kendall Drive) at the intersection of SW 122nd Avenue. While no major roadblock was immediately established, the resulting rubbernecking is causing significant backups for those heading toward the Palmetto Expressway.

Additionally, a disabled vehicle has been reported on I-95 Northbound just north of NW 135th Street in North Miami. In the airport area, a patrol car crash at NW 72nd Avenue and NW 22nd Street has led to localized lane restrictions. Drivers are advised to exercise caution and allow for an extra 10 to 15 minutes of travel time if passing through these zones.

Major Roadwork and Corridor Updates

Significant infrastructure projects continue to affect the Miami-Dade artery network. The following alerts are currently in effect:

  • I-395/SR 836 Signature Bridge Project: Following a serious construction incident earlier this month, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has mandated a project stand-down. While the main travel lanes of SR 836 remain open to traffic, construction activity in the controlled work zones remains paused pending internal safety reviews. Commuters should expect the current lane configurations to remain static for the foreseeable future.
  • Okeechobee Road (SR 25/US 27): Major reconstruction continues from NW 107th Avenue to NW 116th Way. As the project nears its estimated completion this month, motorists should be alert for single-lane closures between 9:00 AM and 3:30 PM.
  • I-95 Regional Construction: For those commuting into Miami from the north, be aware of massive delays expected near Boynton Beach Boulevard due to nightly lane closures (10:00 PM to 6:00 AM). In the Jupiter area, the southbound off-ramp to eastbound Indiantown Road is scheduled for closure tonight starting at 8:00 PM.

Public Transportation and Rail Alerts

Miami-Dade Transit and regional rail services are operating on a regular weekday schedule today. The new Metro Express Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service between Florida City and Dadeland South is seeing steady ridership; commuters are encouraged to use this route to bypass congestion on US-1.

Brightline has recently increased its capacity by deploying longer six-to-seven-car train sets during peak morning and evening periods to accommodate higher demand. Meanwhile, Tri-Rail continues to operate despite ongoing regional budget discussions. However, travelers should note that the previous voucher program for ride-share connections has been discontinued, so commuters should finalize their "last mile" plans before arriving at the station.
