New MetroConnect Fares and I-395 Lane Shifts Impact Monday Commute

Major Transit Shifts for Monday Commuters
Commuters across Miami-Dade County face a new transit reality this morning, Monday, February 2, 2026. Following the implementation of major service adjustments that took effect yesterday, the MetroConnect on-demand microtransit service has transitioned to a weekday-only schedule. Riders should be aware that weekend service is no longer available, and the operating hours are now strictly set from 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
In addition to the schedule change, a new fare structure is now in place. A standard trip on MetroConnect now costs $3.75, which must be paid at the time of booking via the mobile app. However, a discounted rate of $1.50 applies if your trip starts or ends at an eligible transit hub, such as a Metrorail or Metrobus station. Crucially, service has been discontinued in the Civic Center and Waterford Business District zones. Commuters in these areas are encouraged to utilize the City of Miami Trolley or standard Metrobus routes, such as the 7, 57, and 73 for Waterford, or the Metrorail for the Health District.
Ongoing Construction on Major Arteries
The massive I-395/SR 836/I-95 Design-Build Project continues to reshape the downtown skyline and impact traffic flow. Drivers should expect the following conditions today:
- I-395 Mainline: Expect lane shifts and potential congestion near the Signature Bridge construction site, particularly between North Miami Avenue and NW 3 Avenue where segment installation is active.
- NE 2 Avenue: Lane closures remain in effect between NE 13 Street and I-395. Southbound drivers should use NE 14 Street and Biscayne Boulevard as a detour.
- I-95 Reconstruction: Nighttime concrete pavement replacement continues between NW 8 Street and NW 29 Street. While lanes typically reopen by 5:30 a.m., lingering equipment may cause slight delays during the early morning merge.
- SR 836: Work on the double-decking project near NW 17 Avenue may result in narrowed lanes. Exercise caution when approaching the Midtown Interchange.
Alerts for PortMiami and Local Trolleys
While the start of the work week is relatively stable for the port, a significant roadway project on SR 886/Port Boulevard is scheduled to begin this Wednesday, February 4. Commuters who regularly access PortMiami should prepare for lane reductions later this week. In Liberty City, the Saturday trolley pilot program continues to be a viable weekend option through February 9, though it does not affect today's standard Monday operations. Brightline continues to run on its enhanced schedule, offering 30-minute frequencies during peak morning hours for those commuting between MiamiCentral and Fort Lauderdale.
