NW 47th Avenue Closed Due to Major Fire; Transit Delays at Dadeland South and Downtown

Emergency Road Closures in Northwest Miami-Dade
Commuters in the northern part of the county should prepare for significant disruptions today, Friday, March 6, 2026. A massive five-alarm warehouse fire near Miami Gardens at 20600 NW 47th Avenue continues to impact traffic. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office has closed NW 47th Avenue between NW 199th Street and NW 215th Street. Additionally, Miramar Police have blocked southbound lanes of Palm Avenue leading into Miami-Dade. These closures are expected to remain in place throughout the day as fire crews manage the scene. Motorists are urged to avoid the area and use NW 27th Avenue or NW 57th Avenue as alternate routes.
Metromover and Metrorail Service Adjustments
Public transit riders will encounter several modifications to their usual routes today. The Metromover Inner Loop service has been modified to allow for track maintenance. All Metromover trains—including the Brickell, Omni, and Inner Loops—are currently operating on the same track and in the same direction. Consequently, the Miami Avenue Station is temporarily closed. Passengers needing to access the Miami Avenue area should use the Third Street Station, located two blocks south, as the nearest alternative.
Metrorail commuters using the southern end of the system should also plan for extra travel time. Single-tracking is in effect at the Dadeland South Station due to ongoing intermodal station improvements. This work is scheduled to last several weeks, with trains serving only one side of the platform. Peak-period trains on the Green and Orange lines are expected to run every 10 to 12 minutes, while off-peak service may extend to every 30 minutes. Furthermore, after 8 p.m., travelers to Miami International Airport must transfer between the Green Line and the Airport Shuttle Train at Earlington Heights.
Major Arteries and Highway Roadworks
Several construction projects are impacting nighttime and early morning travel on Miami’s major expressways:
- Florida’s Turnpike (SR 821): Expect single and double lane closures overnight between NW 106th Street and I-75 as widening projects continue. The entrance ramp from Okeechobee Road (US 27) remains under a full overnight closure until 5 a.m.
- I-95/Golden Glades Interchange: Motorists should anticipate lane and ramp closures near the interchange between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. for ongoing rehabilitation work.
- US 1/Overseas Highway: Southbound lane closures in Florida City will occur between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Traffic is being detoured to Card Sound Road, where tolls have been temporarily suspended for the duration of the closure.
Local Traffic Notes
In Coral Gables, Sevilla Avenue is closed today between N. Greenway Drive and San Domingo Street for approximately eight hours to allow for water service installations. At Miami International Airport, moderate disruptions are reported due to a large-scale weather system affecting the national network, so travelers are advised to check their flight status before heading to the terminal.
