Public Safety and High-Impact Spring Break Measures

The City of Miami Beach and Miami-Dade County have entered a high-impact enforcement period effective today, Friday, March 13, 2026. These measures are designed to ensure public safety during the peak of the spring break season. Residents and visitors should be aware of the following active restrictions and enforcement actions:

  • DUI Checkpoints: Law enforcement will conduct active DUI checkpoints throughout the evening of March 13 and into March 14 to deter impaired driving.
  • South Beach Parking: A flat rate of $100 for non-residents is in effect at all city-owned parking garages in the Art Deco District (G1 through G4). Local street parking and surface lots for non-residents have been increased to rates between $4 to $15 per hour.
  • Beach Access: Security checkpoints are active at beach entrances along Ocean Drive. Entry is restricted to specific streets, including 5th, 7th, 8th, 10th, 12th, and 14th Streets. Prohibited items such as coolers, glass containers, and amplified music are being strictly confiscated.
  • Liquor Sale Restrictions: All package liquor stores in the Art Deco District must cease sales at 8:00 p.m.
  • Towing Fees: The towing rate for non-residents has been doubled to $548, plus administrative fees, for vehicles found in violation of high-impact parking zones.

Official Public Meetings and Hearings

Several municipal boards are convening today to address local infrastructure, environmental resilience, and administrative matters. All meetings are open to the public:

  • Unsafe Structure Panel Meeting: Scheduled for 9:00 a.m. at Miami City Hall, Commission Chambers (3500 Pan American Dr.). The panel will review pending structural violations within city limits.
  • Climate Resilience Committee Workshop: A session regarding the "Save Our City" initiative will begin at 12:00 p.m. at the Miami Riverside Center, 10th Floor (444 SW 2nd Ave.).
  • South Miami Pension Board: The board will meet from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. to discuss city employee retirement fund management.

Infrastructure and Health Advisories

Building Safety: In North Miami, unsafe structure notices remain active for several units on Northeast 19th Drive. Following inspections that revealed structural cracks and floor sagging, residents in 10 affected units have been ordered to vacate for their safety. Displaced tenants are encouraged to contact the Housing and Social Services Department for resource assistance.

Health Alert: The Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County maintains a Mosquito-borne Illness Alert. Residents are urged to follow "Drain and Cover" protocols to mitigate the risk of Dengue and Malaria. This includes draining any standing water around the home and wearing repellent when outdoors.

Planning and Appeals: Today, March 13, 2026, marks the final deadline for filing appeals regarding the Intended Decision for the property located at 3834 El Prado Blvd. All documentation must be submitted to the Planning Department by the close of business.

Park Access: Sections of Bayfront Park are currently fenced off as crews begin preparations for the Ultra Music Festival. Pedestrians should expect altered pathways and limited waterfront access in the downtown area through the end of the month.
