Official City Roundup: Emergency Alerts, Water Advisories, and Public Comment Deadlines

Public Service Announcement: Emergency Notification System Test
The University of Miami Office of Emergency Management has announced a comprehensive system test of the Emergency Notification Network (ENN) scheduled for today, Wednesday, February 11, 2026. The test will occur between 12:05 p.m. and 12:20 p.m. Residents and students near the Coral Gables, Marine, and Medical campuses may encounter multiple forms of alerts, including SMS text messages, voice calls, and outdoor public address broadcasts. This is a routine, federally required test to ensure the efficiency of emergency communications. No public action is required when these alerts are received, as all messages will clearly state that they are part of a test.
Health and Safety: Water Shortage Warning Issued
The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) has officially issued a Water Shortage Warning for Miami-Dade County due to ongoing drought conditions and a decline in the Biscayne Aquifer levels. While mandatory restrictions have not yet been implemented, the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department (WASD) is urging all residents to engage in voluntary water conservation efforts today. Recommended actions include:
- Skipping scheduled lawn irrigation days and opting for spot-watering only.
- Postponing non-essential activities such as washing vehicles or pressure cleaning.
- Reducing the frequency of refilling swimming pools.
Officials are monitoring well fields and treatment plants closely to determine if further measures will be necessary in the coming weeks.
City Governance: Public Comment Deadline and Commission Meetings
Today, February 11, marks the final day of the 30-day public review and comment period regarding the allocation of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds. Residents have until the close of business to submit feedback on proposed resolutions, which include a $317,500 transfer for a Commercial Façade and Code Compliance Pilot Program in District 4 and additional funding for infill housing units in District 5. These items will be presented for final approval at the City Commission meeting scheduled for Thursday, February 12.
Additionally, the OMNI Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) is holding a regular meeting today at 9:30 a.m. at Miami City Hall. The session is open to the public and will address local redevelopment initiatives and grant updates.
Transportation and Licensing Updates
The Miami-Dade County Tax Collector’s Office reminds residents that new statewide rules for third-party driver license exams are now in effect. While exams completed in Spanish before February 6 are being honored, a 60-day transition period is currently active for language requirements. Furthermore, travelers at Miami International Airport are reminded that the TSA ConfirmID fee of $45 is now being applied to passengers who arrive at security checkpoints without a REAL ID or an accepted alternative form of identification.
Community Announcement: Jazz in the Park
City of Miami Chairwoman Christine King has officially announced the return of 'Jazz in the Park' at Legion Park. While the event is scheduled for February 22, the city is encouraging residents to register early starting today. The upcoming performance will feature Latin jazz artist Tito Puente, Jr. and saxophonist Gerald Albright.
