The City of Miami and Miami-Dade County have issued several critical notices and public service announcements effective today, Friday, February 27, 2026. Residents and business owners are encouraged to review the following updates regarding public safety, health, and local governance.

Public Meeting: Unsafe Structure Panel

The City of Miami will convene a meeting of the Unsafe Structure Panel today at 9:00 a.m. The proceedings will take place at Miami City Hall in the City Commission Chambers, located at 3500 Pan American Drive. The panel will review cases involving structures within city limits that have been deemed a potential threat to public safety. Property owners and interested parties are invited to attend. For additional information, residents may contact the panel liaison at (305) 416-1109.

Election Qualifying Deadline for West Miami

Today marks the final day of the qualifying period for the City of West Miami’s upcoming Regular Municipal Election and Special Election. Candidates seeking the office of Mayor or City Commissioner (Seats 1, 2, and 4) must complete their filing by 12:00 p.m. today at West Miami City Hall, 901 SW 62nd Avenue. This deadline is critical for all residents intending to appear on the April 14, 2026, ballot.

Health Advisory: Mosquito-Borne Illness Alert

The Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County has maintained an active mosquito-borne illness alert following the confirmation of a locally acquired case of chikungunya. Health officials urge residents to adhere to "Drain and Cover" protocols. This includes draining standing water from gutters, pool covers, and flowerpots to eliminate breeding grounds. Residents are also advised to use EPA-approved repellents containing DEET or picaridin, particularly during dawn and dusk when mosquito activity is highest.

Spring Break Public Safety and Traffic Measures

In alignment with the city’s high-impact period protocols, enhanced security measures are now in effect for the weekend. Visitors and residents should expect security checkpoints at beach entrances along Ocean Drive. Local access restrictions are being enforced on several streets to manage traffic flow, particularly in the South of Fifth and Flamingo Park neighborhoods. Non-resident towing fees have been set at $548 for violations within restricted zones to ensure public right-of-way remains clear.

Senior Property Tax Rebate Distribution

The City of Miami has announced that property tax rebate checks for qualifying seniors are currently being processed and mailed. Seniors who own and homestead their homes within city limits should monitor their mailboxes over the coming days. This program provides a 100% rebate of City ad valorem taxes for eligible residents as part of the 2026 Senior Citizen Tax Relief Program.
