Community Development Funding: Virtual Public Meeting Today

The Miami-Dade County Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) is conducting a pivotal virtual public meeting today, Friday, January 30, 2026. Scheduled to take place from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the session is dedicated to reviewing the draft 2026 Request for Applications (RFA) for essential federal funding programs. These include the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), the HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME), and the Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG).

This meeting provides an opportunity for residents, non-profit organizations, and stakeholders to offer feedback on how these funds should be prioritized to support local housing and infrastructure. HCD officials will provide an overview of the programs and explain the application requirements for the upcoming fiscal cycle. Residents who cannot attend the live virtual session may submit written comments to the department through February 6, 2026.

Senior Rental Assistance: Application Period Active

The City of Miami’s Senior Rental Assistance Program (SRAP) is currently accepting new applications as of this Friday. The program, which reopened on January 26, is designed to assist low-income residents aged 62 and older who are facing significant rent increases. To be eligible, a household's income must be at or below 50 percent of the Area Median Income (AMI), and the applicant must be spending more than 30 percent of their monthly income on rent.

Qualified seniors may receive up to $500 per month in assistance for a duration of one year, with payments made directly to the landlord. The application period remains open through February 20, 2026. Paper applications are available for collection at Miami City Hall and various District Offices between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on weekdays.

Health Advisory Update: North Shore Beach Safety

The Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County has officially rescinded the water quality health advisory for the North Shore area at 73rd Street in Miami Beach. Following a series of tests conducted this week, bacterial levels for Enterococcus have returned to within the acceptable range established by state safety guidelines. Residents and visitors are advised that the previous restrictions on swimming and water-related activities at this specific location have been lifted, and the water is once again deemed safe for recreational use.

The City of Miami is currently being represented at the national level as Mayor Eileen Higgins concludes her attendance at the U.S. Conference of Mayors Winter Meeting in Washington, D.C., today, January 30. The Mayor is joining local leaders from across the country to discuss federal solutions for urban infrastructure and economic development. Locally, the City Manager has confirmed the appointment of Helena Poleo as the new Director of Communications. This appointment is part of a renewed commitment to enhancing transparent and responsive communication between the city government and the public.
