Miami Beach High-Impact Safety Measures

The City of Miami Beach has designated Sunday, March 15, 2026, as part of a high-impact period to maintain public safety and order during the spring season. Residents and visitors are advised of the following active restrictions and enforcement protocols:

  • Traffic Restrictions: Ocean Drive is currently accessible to vehicles only from 15th Street, with a mandatory exit at 5th Street. Expect significant traffic delays and increased police presence throughout the Art Deco District.
  • Parking and Towing: Flat-rate parking fees ranging from $40 to $100 are in effect for city-owned garages in the entertainment district. Non-resident vehicles parked illegally or in restricted zones face a doubled towing rate of $548 plus administrative fees.
  • Beach Access: Beach entry along Ocean Drive is limited to specific checkpoints located at 5, 7, 8, 10, 12, and 14 Streets. Prohibited items include coolers, glass containers, tents, and amplified music.
  • Rental Suspensions: The rental and operation of golf carts, low-speed vehicles, autocycles (slingshots), and motorized scooters are suspended through the end of the day.

Public Health Alert: Mosquito-Borne Illnesses

The Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County has maintained a mosquito-borne illness alert for the region. Recent surveillance confirmed ongoing local concerns regarding Dengue, Chikungunya, and Malaria. Health officials urge the public to follow the "Drain and Cover" protocol:

  • Drain: Eliminate standing water in gutters, flowerpots, and discarded tires where mosquitoes can breed.
  • Cover: Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants when outdoors, and apply repellent containing DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus to exposed skin.

Climate Week Kick-off and Environmental Policy

Today, Sunday, March 15, Mayor Eileen Higgins and District 2 Commissioner Damian Pardo will host the Eco Block Party to officially launch Miami Climate Week. This event features announcements regarding the city’s new resilience strategies, including initiatives to combat extreme heat and flooding. This follows the recent City Commission approval of a new procurement policy to eliminate single-use plastics and Styrofoam in city contracts and concessions.

Upcoming Public Meetings and Events

Citizens are invited to attend the following upcoming official proceedings:

  • Brisas del Sol Grand Opening: Monday, March 16, at 9:30 a.m. in Little Havana. Mayor Higgins and Commissioner Rolando Escalona will celebrate the opening of this new affordable housing development.
