Sunday Morning Traffic Outlook

Commuters in Miami should prepare for a mix of major infrastructure projects and event-related delays this Sunday, February 8, 2026. While typical Sunday morning traffic remains light across most of the county, significant detours and station closures in the downtown core and along major expressway interchanges will require extra travel time.

Major Artery Construction: I-395/SR 836/I-95 Updates

The ongoing "Connecting Miami" Design-Build project continues to heavily impact the Midtown Interchange. Motorists should be aware of several high-impact closures and detours currently in effect:

  • I-95 Northbound: The ramp from northbound I-95 to eastbound I-395 remains under a detour. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes such as NW 8th Street or continue north to I-195/Julia Tuttle Causeway for eastbound access.
  • SR 836 Eastbound: There is a complete closure of eastbound SR 836 at the NW 17th Avenue interchange. Drivers heading toward downtown or the MacArthur Causeway must exit at NW 17th Avenue and follow posted detour signs.
  • Biscayne Boulevard: Expect intermittent lane closures on northbound Biscayne Boulevard near the I-395 overpass as crews continue work on the Signature Bridge arches.
  • I-95 Southbound: While mainline traffic is flowing, the NW 8th Street ramp to northbound I-95 remains closed for pavement reconstruction.

Public Transport Alerts: Metromover and Metrorail

Miami-Dade Transit has issued a critical alert for Metromover users today. The Financial District Station is temporarily closed all weekend for system-wide hardware and cabling upgrades. During this closure, the Brickell Loop will continue to operate, but trips will begin and end at the Brickell Metromover Station. Passengers needing to reach the Financial District should allow for additional walking time or use local bus alternatives.

Metrorail is operating on its standard Sunday schedule, with trains running every 15 to 20 minutes. No significant track maintenance is reported on the Green or Orange lines today, though riders should check the GO Miami-Dade Transit app for real-time arrival updates.

Event-Related Congestion: Rickenbacker Causeway

Increased traffic is expected on the Rickenbacker Causeway today due to the final day of the "Love Burn" event at Historic Virginia Key Beach Park. Motorists traveling to Key Biscayne should anticipate delays near the park entrance. Additionally, the Miami Rum Congress at the Miami Beach Convention Center and the EEEEEATSCON food festival may cause localized congestion in South Beach and Wynwood throughout the afternoon.

Commuter Advice

For those traveling between the mainland and Miami Beach, the Venetian Causeway and Julia Tuttle Causeway (I-195) are currently the clearest routes. Avoid the Midtown Interchange and the MacArthur Causeway if possible to bypass the most restrictive construction zones. As always, stay alert for workers in active construction areas and follow all posted speed limits.
