Body-camera footage made public more than two years after deadly foot chase

Newly released body-worn camera video shows the final moments of an October 2023 encounter in which a Miami Police detective shot and killed a man during a foot pursuit. The footage was made public on Tuesday, after prosecutors determined last week that the shooting was legally justified.

The video centers on events that investigators say began when officers encountered two men later identified as Arnicious Odom Jr. and Marco Brown Jr. Investigators said the pair were wearing masks and hooded sweatshirts and appeared to be carrying a heavy object.

What the video shows and what investigators say happened

In the footage, officers move in to detain Brown. Investigators said an officer saw a loaded gun in Brown’s pants. The body-camera video captures an officer taking Brown to the ground and placing him into custody. During that sequence, Brown can be heard pleading with officers not to kill him as the weapon is located and secured.

Investigators said Odom ran from the scene with a gun. A detective pursued him in a police vehicle, then continued on foot after exiting the cruiser. Investigators said Odom reached a fence, threw the firearm over it, and climbed over as well. They said that as Odom attempted to retrieve the weapon on the other side of the fence, the detective fired, killing him. Investigators said Odom was pronounced dead at the scene.

  • Incident date: October 2023
  • Video released: Tuesday, February 10, 2026
  • Prosecutorial finding: shooting legally justified (announced last week)

How these cases are reviewed in Florida

In Florida, fatal police shootings typically undergo parallel review processes that can include a criminal investigation, an assessment by prosecutors of whether any charges are supported, and internal administrative review by the law-enforcement agency. Prosecutors’ decisions focus on whether the evidence meets the legal threshold for criminal charges and whether the use of force was permitted under state law.

The footage provides a real-time record of commands, movement, and weapon recovery, but it does not resolve every factual question that can arise in use-of-force incidents, including what an officer perceived at the precise instant force was used.

What remains unknown from the public record released so far

The publicly described materials do not include a complete timeline leading up to the initial encounter, nor do they provide detailed information about any underlying calls for service, suspected offenses, or subsequent administrative findings. It also remains unclear whether additional video angles exist beyond the body-worn footage referenced in the release, and whether any further documentation—such as investigative reports or policy findings—will be made public.

Miami.news will continue to track any additional records releases and any related civil or administrative proceedings tied to the 2023 shooting.
