Monday Morning Traffic Overview

Good morning, Miami. Commuters heading out this Monday, February 9, 2026, can look forward to excellent driving conditions from a weather perspective. With clear skies and a cool morning start at 52°F climbing toward a comfortable 76°F, visibility remains high across the county. However, while the weather is cooperative, several major infrastructure projects are active today, particularly affecting the Dolphin Expressway (SR 836) and northern commute corridors.

Major Roadworks and Detours

The most significant impact for daily commuters today remains the ongoing bridge and expansion work on the SR 836 corridor. Drivers should be aware of the following specific disruptions:

  • NW 37th Avenue: Due to bridge construction, northbound trips are currently detoured between SR 836 and the Miami International Airport Metrorail Station. Northbound traffic is being rerouted toward the Car Rental Center ramp, while southbound traffic is being diverted to Le Jeune Road (SW 42nd Avenue).
  • NW 17th Avenue: Construction at the 836 underpass continues to cause delays. Northbound traffic between NW 7th Street and NW North River Drive is being detoured to NW 12th Avenue. Southbound drivers are being rerouted to enter the 836 westbound, exit at NW 27th Avenue, and re-enter eastbound to reach their destination.
  • Commuting from the North: For those traveling into Miami-Dade from Palm Beach County, be advised that Alt A1A has scheduled lane and sidewalk closures between RCA Boulevard and Donald Ross Road starting at 9:00 a.m. today. Additionally, the Earman River Bridge is operating with northbound traffic shifted to the southbound bridge.

Public Transport and Transit Alerts

Miami-Dade Transit users should note several service changes that took effect earlier this month and remain in place today:

  • MetroConnect Service Changes: As of February 1, the MetroConnect on-demand service has transitioned to weekday-only operations. Service is available today from 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a standard fare of $3.75. Please note that service has been discontinued in the Civic Center and Waterford Business District zones.
  • Metromover Update: The Financial District station, which was closed over the weekend for system upgrades, has resumed normal operations for the Monday morning rush. The Brickell Loop is running on its standard schedule.

Commuter Tips for Today

With the Miami International Boat Show set to begin this Wednesday, February 11, expect increased commercial and setup traffic around the Miami Beach Convention Center and Pride Park areas throughout the day. If your commute involves the MacArthur or Julia Tuttle Causeways, allow an extra 10 to 15 minutes to account for pre-event logistics. For the smoothest ride, utilize the Palmetto Expressway or I-95, which are currently clear of major unannounced incidents.
