Fatal crash shuts down a major north-south corridor in southwest Miami-Dade

A man and a woman were killed in a rollover crash involving two vehicles at U.S. 1 and Southwest 112th Street in southwest Miami-Dade early Friday, February 13, 2026, authorities said.

Deputies responded to reports of a traffic crash at approximately midnight. At the scene, two vehicles were found involved in the collision. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue pronounced both drivers dead at the scene: a man in one vehicle and a woman in the other.

Authorities had not released the victims’ names, ages, or hometowns by Friday morning. No information had been provided on whether passengers were in either vehicle, whether anyone else was injured, or whether alcohol, speed, or other factors are suspected.

Road closures and traffic impacts

The crash triggered an extended closure of U.S. 1, one of Miami-Dade County’s primary arterial roadways. A traffic alert announced that all lanes of U.S. 1 were closed from Southwest 112th Avenue to Southwest 200th Street/Caribbean Boulevard while investigators worked the scene.

Officials urged drivers to avoid the area and use alternate routes. Extended lane closures on U.S. 1 typically affect commute times for nearby neighborhoods and can also complicate access to businesses, schools, and emergency services along the corridor.

Investigation assigned to traffic homicide detectives

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said its Traffic Homicide detectives assumed responsibility for the investigation. Such investigations generally focus on reconstructing how the crash occurred, including vehicle speeds, points of impact, roadway evidence, and any available video or witness accounts.

As of Friday morning, authorities had not released details about the sequence of events leading to the rollover, which vehicle rolled, or whether either driver may have been cited or was driving recklessly.

What remains unknown

  • The identities of the man and woman killed and notification status for next of kin
  • Whether either driver was wearing a seat belt
  • Whether impairment, speeding, mechanical failure, or road conditions are being considered
  • The estimated timeline for reopening lanes on U.S. 1

Drivers were advised to avoid the area and follow detours while investigators processed the crash scene.

Authorities said additional details would be released as the investigation continues.
